Advanced Manufacturing Welding Engineer

As part of Advance Manufacturing Technology group, conduct welding engineering projects to enhance the function, profitability and marketability of Camaco seating products. Develop, qualify and provide technical expertise with procedures and welding techniques to support the fabrication of seating structures and mechanisms.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support in driving standardization across the following Welding processes: GMAW (MIG, MAG & CMT); Laser Welding (Fiber); Resistance Welding (Spot and Projection). Create a common machine design that will allow quick changeover.
  • Develop standard documentation on the above welding processes in relationship to quality requirements of the customer.
  • Create technical specifications, manage equipment vendors, conduct machine runoffs, and machine acceptance studies prior to successful buy offs by ensuring supplier compliance to Camaco Standards
  • Identify, qualify, and develop new equipment suppliers. Build relationships to ensure thorough understanding and consistent execution of standards.
  • Provide cycle time and cost estimates on welding processes for new business opportunities.
  • Support Product design on new programs for Design for Manufacturing
  • Continuously improve existing welding processes for enhancing welding productivity and reducing downtime
  • Support the Plant and launch teams to investigate the root cause of weld quality issues from customers and develop corrective action plan.
  • Research advanced welding technologies for new projects.
  • Research advanced weld monitoring technologies for new products.
  • Coordinate manufacturing launch for new and revised products across facilities
  • Support internal and external teams during the concept development process for the industrialization of customer projects.
  • Conduct time and method studies establishing time standards for welding operations.
  • Develop and manage welding related process FMEA’s and other process documentation.
  • Refurbish and repurpose equipment based on global program launches and production needs.
  • Ensure global compliance with IATF16949 and other quality, environmental, manufacturing and customer standard requirements.
  • Simulate welding process to ensure torch access and angles are met.
  • Develop a process to ensure correct welding parameters are established and maintained.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering.
  • 5+ years of work experience in an automotive manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge and practical experience with Laser, MIG & Resistance welding processes, tooling and OEM standards
  • Weld certification.
  • Familiarity with reading blueprints including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing
  • Good computer skills are required; CAD experience is beneficial.
  • Good written and oral communication skills are required.
  • Automotive seating structures experience preferred.

  • Practical experience with Laser, MIG & Resistance welding processes & tooling.
  • Ability to setup process parameters, weld parameters to improve FTT (First Time Through)

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee works on the plant floor and in an office environment.
